Ambassador visits Höfn-Care Home in Vancouver
In his address, the Ambassador paid tribute to the early Icelandic founders of the Care Home Höfn Society and their successors for the deep rooted spirit of compassion and social awareness demonstrated ever since the opening of the first Höfn home in 1947. He congratulated the present leadership for carrying on the torch with excellent results as witnessed by an impressive new building comprising 77 apartments and excellent central facilities for various services. The new building was officially opened last February. Ambassador Markús Örn Antonsson also mentioned the great devotion and commitment shown by the Icelandic women’s society “Sólskin” which has for decades cared for the wellbeing of Höfn-Icelandic Harbour residents.
On behalf of the Höfn Care Home and its residents, Board President Brian Bjarnason received a token to signify Icelandic appreciation of a mission well accomplished, a picture of Thingvellir, the site of the ancient Icelandic Parliament, recently proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
