Look for the big sand spit stretching into the water.
Uniquely gentle for the Westfjords, Önundarfjörður breaks the pattern of steep, dark cliffs with a sweep of golden sand at Holtsfjara. It feels brighter and more open here, with the charming village of Flateyri sitting on a curved spit of land that seems to float on the calm water.
