Lively roads, open trails, and long twilight.

Best for

  • Full Ring Road trip — best weather, all roads including F-roads open
  • Highland adventures — Landmannalaugar, Askja caldera, Sprengisandur
  • Laugavegur Trek and Fimmvörðuháls trail (peak hiking season)
  • Whale watching in Húsavík — 98%+ sighting rate for humpbacks
  • Puffins at peak (colonies active until mid-August)
  • Camping throughout the country (200+ campsites open)

  • Light layers — T-shirt, fleece, waterproof shell (all still needed daily)
  • Sturdy waterproof hiking boots for highland trails
  • Sunglasses + SPF 30+ sunscreen
  • Eye mask for sleeping (still very bright at night)
  • Swimsuit + quick-dry towel for hot springs
  • Midge head net for Mývatn area
  • Camping gear if tent-touring (book popular sites early)
