East Vatnajökull
Remote outlet near Egilsstaðir area.
Lambatungujökull is one of Vatnajökull's smaller and less-known outlet glaciers, flowing eastward from the ice cap toward the Eastfjords region. Set in a remote highland landscape of volcanic sand and moraines, this glacier sees very few visitors—offering a genuine wilderness experience for those willing to make the journey. Like many smaller outlets, it has been retreating noticeably as Iceland's climate warms.
