Best for

  • Ring Road — all roads still open, slightly fewer crowds than July
  • Highland F-roads (Landmannalaugar, Askja) before they close in Sept
  • Puffin watching (last chance — colonies leave mid-August)
  • Whale watching still excellent in Húsavík and Reykjavík
  • Þjóðhátíð festival in Vestmannaeyjar (first weekend of August)
  • Berry picking (blueberries and crowberries ripen late August)
