Can I see the northern lights in August?

Late August brings the first dark nights after the midnight sun. By the last week, aurora sightings become possible on clear nights, especially in the north.

Are there festivals in August?

Yes. Þjóðhátíð (Vestmannaeyjar festival) is Iceland's biggest outdoor event in early August. Reykjavík also hosts Culture Night (Menningarnótt) on the third Saturday.

Is August very crowded?

August is still peak season but slightly less hectic than July, especially in the second half. Book accommodation and popular tours well in advance.
